I am writing to demand that you initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump for flagrant violations of constitutional authority and abuse of executive power that threaten the foundations of our democratic system. Trump recently threatened to impose federal voter ID requirements for midterm elections "whether approved by Congress or not," claiming he would issue an executive order despite the Constitution explicitly granting states the authority to conduct elections. This represents a direct assault on federalism and the separation of powers. He also threatened to unilaterally ban mail-in ballots except for limited circumstances, despite polling showing 58% of Americans favor allowing any voter to cast ballots by mail. These are not policy disagreements but fundamental violations of constitutional limits on presidential authority. The Department of Homeland Security has reportedly sent hundreds of administrative subpoenas to tech companies including Google, Reddit, Discord, and Meta demanding names, email addresses, and phone numbers of people who track or criticize ICE operations. This chilling surveillance of constitutionally protected speech and assembly rights echoes authoritarian tactics and violates the First Amendment rights of citizens engaging in lawful oversight of government activities. Additionally, federal authorities opened a criminal investigation into two ICE officers who allegedly lied under oath about a shooting in Minneapolis on January 14. Video evidence contradicted their sworn testimony about the shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis, and ICE Director Todd Lyons confirmed the officers could face criminal prosecution for perjury. The ACLU filed an amended complaint with over 80 declarations documenting constitutional rights violations by ICE and Border Patrol agents in Minnesota, including pepper spraying, body-slamming, and intimidation of residents. These actions demonstrate a pattern of lawlessness emanating from the executive branch. The Constitution provides impeachment as the remedy when a president exceeds constitutional authority and threatens democratic governance. I urge you to fulfill your oath to defend the Constitution by supporting articles of impeachment.
