Stop eroding state guidelines on AI
To: Rep. Trahan
From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA
May 18
The citizens of Lowell have pushed through the first data center construction moratorium in the state. We have made it clear where we stand on generative AI infrastructure in our neighborhoods. Many of us are concerned about use of the technology, too, and want our state to follow in the footsteps of others for better regulation of use.
Your work with Jay Obernolte to invalidate the state-level AI policies currently in place through the country is an abject slap in the face to your constituents. First, you are collaborating with someone who wants basically no AI accountability. Second, you'd be helping to give the Trump admin MORE CONTROL over this tech and more opportunities to benefit financially from it.
The idea of allowing state level regulation again in two years is a joke. Just in time for the Trump admin to do its damage, make its money, and leave office, repeating the endless cycle of Republicans destroying our crumbling infrastructure further and giving a Democrat the burden and blame of attempting to rectify it.
Shame on you.
