Condemn Your Vote for the "Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act"

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

May 22

Your vote for the "Stopping Indoctrination and Protecting Kids Act" was a betrayal — of your party, your caucus, and every LGBTQ+ student in this district. You broke from your Democratic colleagues to support a bill that forces teachers to out transgender kids to their parents before those students are ready. That is not a parental rights position. That is a safety threat. Forty percent of homeless youth are LGBTQ+, most pushed out by family rejection. Outing a student before they're ready puts them directly on that path. Rep. Mark Takano, a 24-year educator and Equality Caucus chair, called this bill an "inhumane Don't Say Trans bill." He's right — and you voted against that truth. Your LGBTQ+ constituents, their families, and everyone who voted for you expecting basic human dignity are watching. Breaking from your own party to strip vulnerable teenagers of their one safe space demands a public explanation and a public condemnation. Speak out against this vote. Now.
