Anthony Constantino just won the Republican primary in NY-21, and his stated agenda is to "detransition America" through federal legislation. That is not a culture war talking point — it is a policy platform targeting real medical care for real people. Block it.
Gender-affirming care is healthcare. Doctors prescribe it. Patients need it. Constantino has compared it to smoking and alcoholism, appeared to endorse conversion therapy, and called trans people a "scam" on camera. Imagine a candidate running on eliminating treatment for any other medical condition — it would be disqualifying. This should be too. The fact that a Trump endorsement and this rhetoric carried him to a 20-point primary win makes congressional opposition more urgent, not less.
If Democrats retake the House majority, the first order of business should be protecting Medicaid and Medicare coverage for gender-affirming care and blocking any legislation that restricts it. Constantino's agenda would strip healthcare from some of the most vulnerable people in this country — those who are incarcerated, low-income, or dependent on federal coverage. That is not a fringe concern. It is exactly what he has promised to do. Hold the line.
