Reject exploitative bank overdraft fees, protect vulnerable consumers

To: Sen. Gillibrand, Sen. Schumer

From: A constituent in New York, NY

March 27

Struggling Americans are already facing immense financial hardship, and allowing large banks to rake in an additional $5 billion in profits from overdraft fees would be a tremendous burden. The overdraft rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau aims to rein in predatory overdraft practices that disproportionately impact low-income and vulnerable communities. By voting against S.J.Res. 18, senators can stand up for consumers and ensure large financial institutions do not continue exploiting hardworking families through exorbitant fees on unavoidable overdrafts. Upholding this vital consumer protection aligns with prioritizing people over profits and rejecting exploitative corporate practices. A vote to preserve the overdraft rule is a vote for economic justice and financial equity.
