Democrats can take a lot of the political wind out of Trump's sails if they push hard to reform immigration law. You've had one bipartisan immigration bill linked to national security. At Johnson's insistance, the two were decoupled. Now is the time to get another immigration reform bill out of the Senate. If Johnson is forced to table another immigration bill it will hurt Trump politically, ie. if the voters are continually reminded that Trump is holding up progress to give him a campaign issue, he will lose votes.
