H.R. 1161, the proposed "Red, White, and Blueland Act of 2025," represents a concerning violation of Danish sovereignty over Greenland. The unilateral renaming and attempted acquisition of Greenland disregards the right of self-determination for the people of Greenland and Denmark's authority as the responsible nation. Greenland is not a territory to be claimed, but a semi-autonomous region with its own government and cultural identity closely tied to Denmark. Pursuing this bill would undermine principles of international law and diplomacy. As an alternative, open dialogue between the United States, Denmark, and Greenlandic leaders would be a more respectful approach to any potential negotiations impacting Greenland's status. The preservation of sovereignty and human rights must take precedence over symbolic territorial claims. I urge reconsideration of this regressive legislation.
