I am writing out of deep concern regarding President Trump’s recent statements calling for the killing of Democratic senators who affirmed a basic Constitutional fact: service members are obligated to refuse unlawful orders. This principle is foundational to civilian control of the military and the rule of law.
A sitting president calling for violence against members of Congress is a profound breach of democratic norms and a direct threat to the safety of elected officials. It cannot be normalized, minimized, or ignored.
I am asking you to publicly affirm that:
1. Political violence or threats of violence from any president are unacceptable.
2. Upholding the Constitution—including the limits on presidential authority—is not optional.
3. Lawmakers have a duty to respond when presidential conduct endangers Congress or the public.
I am also requesting clear information on what formal processes exist when a sitting president advocates violence against other branches of government. I believe this behavior warrants immediate and serious consideration of removal mechanisms, including impeachment or any Constitutional remedies applicable in this situation.
At a moment when threats against public officials are rising, it is essential that Congress respond firmly and transparently to protect democratic institutions and the rule of law.
