Urgent: Pass a Clean CR for All & Commit in Writing
To: Sen. Ossoff, Sen. Warnock
From: A constituent in Woodstock, GA
November 10
I am writing as this government shutdown continues and is the longest in history. The cost to federal workers, families, and essential services grows. I appreciate your leadership, but I urge you to take immediate and clear action:
-Pass a clean continuing resolution (CR) that fully funds every federal agency and pays every federal worker, no exclusions, no carve‑outs.
-Refuse to support any split‑pay measure that pays only some workers (for example military) while leaving civilian federal employees unpaid. We all serve the people.
👉 Acknowledge that health insurance subsidies and premium protections must be secured. The point has been made as many are already facing premium increases, and since legislation wasn’t passed before open enrollment or premium lock‑in, the premiums are locked in. The subsidies are important to help support out of pocket premium payments but it will not lower the cost of the insurance. It’s important to clarify that because you cannot retroactively change premium costs but people can go in and add the subsidies to reduce their monthly payment if it is passed. If you all really wanted to lower costs this would have been done a lot earlier after the big ugly bill passed or even before. This is now theater for sound bites.
👉 Get a commitment in writing to a vote in December on the healthcare subsidy extension so that protections are legally affirmed in time for the new policy year.
👉 End the delay and political theater. This issue should have been addressed months ago — not let drag on while the government remains open only in name.
This shutdown isn’t abstract. It is hurting lives, people are hungry, this is eroding infrastructure, and undermining our public health systems.
Please act now to reopen the government, protect all workers, secure subsidies, and stop the damage.
Thank you for your service and leadership.
