Keep Public Land Order 7923 and Protect Chaco Culture National Historical Park

To: Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin, Rep. Quigley

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

April 5

I'm calling on you to direct the BLM to select the No Action Alternative and keep Public Land Order 7923 fully intact. The 10-mile mineral withdrawal around Chaco Culture National Historical Park must remain in place. This sacred landscape holds irreplaceable cultural and archaeological significance. Once oil and gas development damages these sites, we cannot reverse it. The proposed rollback is being rushed through with only 7 days of public comment, compared to the 150 days used to establish these protections. That's not a legitimate public process. The current protections exist for good reason. Opening this land to drilling threatens sites that have stood for over a thousand years. I expect you to stand against this rushed attempt to dismantle protections that were carefully crafted with proper public input. Keep the mineral withdrawal in place.
