Vote NO on Boundary Waters Mining

To: Rep. Bonamici, Sen. Merkley, Sen. Wyden

From: A constituent in Hillsboro, OR

January 22

I am writing to urge you to vote NO on any legislation or permits that would allow sulfide-ore mining in or near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The Boundary Waters is one of the most pristine freshwater wilderness areas in the country. Sulfide-ore mining poses a serious risk of acid mine drainage, which would cause permanent and irreversible damage to clean water, wildlife, and downstream communities. Once this watershed is polluted, it cannot be restored. Short-term mining interests do not outweigh the long-term protection of clean water, public lands, and a sustainable recreation-based economy. I ask you to stand with your constituents and protect this irreplaceable area. Please vote NO on mining in the Boundary Waters watershed.
