As you may already be aware, Dr. Abu Safiya, the Medical Director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Northern Gaza, has been detained by the Israeli military, and the hospital itself was set on fire by the IDF. Since his arrest, Dr. Abu Safiya has not been seen or heard from publicly. In response, the human rights organization *Physicians for Human Rights - Israel* (PHRI) has filed a petition with Israel’s High Court, demanding clarification of Dr. Abu Safiya’s whereabouts. PHRI’s petition comes after receiving a response from the Israeli military, which claimed to have "found no indication" of his detention. Furthermore, an Arab member of the Knesset, Dr. Ahmed Tibi, has sent a letter to Israel’s Minister of Defense, urging authorities to disclose Dr. Abu Safiya’s location and provide the charges against him. Dr. Tibi has requested permission to visit the detained hospital director, citing alarming reports of torture in Israeli detention facilities and the deaths of numerous detainees in recent months. (*Brennan, Salman, Karni, and Karadsheh, *CNN*). I am deeply concerned and alarmed, as are many American citizens, by the United States government’s unwavering support for Israel. It is past time to stop enabling the systematic ethnic cleansing and genocidal actions occurring in Gaza. I urge you to take the following immediate actions: - Demand the **immediate release** of Dr. Abu Safiya from Israeli detention. - Support the **International Criminal Court (ICC)** in issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and oppose all efforts to undermine or sanction the ICC. - Hold Israel accountable for its repeated **violations of international law**, and call for an **immediate and permanent ceasefire**. - Call for the **immediate end** of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and its apartheid policies. - Stand in solidarity with the **Palestinian people** in their struggle for freedom, justice, and peace. - **End all U.S. military, diplomatic, and financial aid** to Israel, and enforce U.S. laws such as the **Leahy Law** and the **Arms Export Control Act**. - Fully **fund the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA)** and allocate additional resources to humanitarian efforts in Gaza. It is unconscionable to continue funding these atrocities with American taxpayer dollars. We can no longer be complicit in the ongoing genocide. It is time for the U.S. to take a firm stand for human rights, justice, and peace.
