Urgent Opposition to HB 754 – Stop the Public Exposure of Private Medical Data I am writing in absolute horror and outrage regarding House Bill 754, which passed the Tennessee House on March 26 and would require the public listing of transgender patients' medical data on the Tennessee Department of Health's website. Let me be clear about what this bill does. It would force all gender clinics in Tennessee to report to the state detailed patient information including: · Age, sex, and county of residence · Names, dosages, and frequency of prescribed medications · Dates of care and referrals · Surgical procedure billing codes · Names and contact information of health care providers · Lists of neurological, behavioral, and mental health diagnoses This deeply personal, sensitive medical data would then be published in an annual report on a public government website—available for anyone in the world to see. The bill's sponsor, Rep. Jeremy Faison, claims this is about helping people with "buyer's remorse" after transgender surgeries. But there is no legitimate medical or policy reason to publish this data publicly. If the goal were truly to support detransitioners, that research could be done without broadcasting the private medical histories of vulnerable Tennesseans for the world to see. This bill is nothing more than state-sanctioned doxxing of transgender people. It would expose them to harassment, discrimination, violence, and retaliation from employers, landlords, neighbors, and strangers who have no right to this information. HIPAA exists precisely to prevent this kind of mass disclosure of medical records. Claiming the data is "de-identified" does not make this acceptable—especially when the data includes county of residence, age, and detailed medical histories, which can easily be used to identify individuals. The protests at the Capitol on March 26, where demonstrators held signs reading "Hands off our medical records!" and "Health data is a human right!", reflect the righteous anger of Tennesseans who understand that this bill is a dangerous violation of privacy and human dignity. I demand that you: 1. Vote NO on HB 754 and oppose any version of this dangerous legislation in the Senate. 2. Publicly condemn this bill as an invasion of medical privacy that puts vulnerable Tennesseans at risk. 3. Protect the doctor-patient relationship and uphold the fundamental right to keep medical records private. No Tennessean should have their most intimate medical information posted online for political spectacle. I urge you to stand against this cruelty and vote down HB 754.
