Shut down every ICE detention center and defund the agency entirely. The death rate in ICE immigrant detention facilities has more than doubled under the current administration. People are dying — a Vietnamese man with cardiovascular problems collapsed and died in the "Speedway Slammer," a repurposed Indiana maximum-security prison, and a Chinese man in a Pennsylvania facility had previously attempted suicide. These are not isolated incidents. This is a pattern of institutional killing. There is no legitimate justification for caging human beings in conditions that produce this kind of mortality rate. ICE detention is not a public safety tool — it is a system that brutalizes people who have not been convicted of any crime. Not one more dollar should go toward funding it.
