Protect Our Housing & Communities: Oppose Intro 1107 and 948

To: Gov. Hochul, Sen. Brisport, Assembly Member Zinerman

From: A constituent in Brooklyn, NY

November 18

I am writing as a resident of your district to express my opposition to Intro 1107 and Intro 948. These bills would allow certain homes to be offered as Airbnb rentals for tourists, which would harm our city’s housing stock and could lead to increased housing costs and a drastic change to the character of our neighborhoods. Allowing Airbnb and its lobbyists to change our city’s rules on housing would set a dangerous precedent. This bill would create a major expansion of Airbnb in neighborhoods across New York City, allowing for rentals that utilize entire homes in one and two-family buildings without the presence of any responsible party. This would prevent many homes from being used as much-needed housing and would also invite significant commercial tourist activity into our residential neighborhoods. The passage of Intro 1107 and/or Intro 948 would also invite further attempts to change our housing rules for the benefit of private actors like Airbnb and housing speculators, further eroding our housing stock and the character of New York’s residential buildings and neighborhoods. I urge you to use your voice to oppose Intro 1107 and Intro 948 and to vote “NO” if and when it comes up for a vote. Thank you for supporting your constituents and our neighborhoods.
