Urgent Action Needed Against School Gun Violence

To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley, Rep. Bonamici

From: A constituent in Portland, OR

November 22

The devastating stories of these children's bedrooms serve as a powerful reminder of the lives senselessly cut short by gun violence in our nation's schools. Each room stands as a heartbreaking memorial, frozen in time, waiting for a child who will never return. These images compel us to confront the harsh reality that families across America have endured unimaginable grief due to this crisis. No parent should ever have to experience such profound loss. We cannot allow these tragedies to continue unabated. It is imperative that we take decisive action to prevent further loss of innocent lives and ensure our schools are sanctuaries of safety, not sites of massacre. Substantive reforms regarding access to firearms and enhanced security measures in educational institutions are long overdue. Every student deserves to learn without fearing for their life. This solemn obligation to protect our youth demands that we collectively prioritize their well-being above all else. The time to act is now before more families are devastated by this senseless violence. We owe it to the memories of these children and to future generations to create lasting change.
