The White House has released its full fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget request. Its proposal for HUD housing programs is summarized at: https://nlihc.org/sites/default/files/WH-Request_HUD_Budget-Chart_FY26_v1.pdf?utm_source=NLIHC+All+Subscribers&utm_campaign=f7b82e3181-cta_fy26_budget_release-6225&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-b3fee911cf-293236981&ct=t(cta_fy26_budget_release-6225)
It would *zero out* federal funding for existing portable housing vouchers (contract renewals), project-based vouchers, and for the Section 811 program for people with disabilities.
This needs to be opposed NOW.
We need:
Full funding to renew all existing Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) contracts and funding to renew 60,000 Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHVs)
Full funding for public housing operations and public housing capital needs.
Cuts to housing are cuts to services for people with disabilities. One report shows that 44% of HUD assisted adults are people with disabilities. (https://nlihc.org/sites/default/files/HHS_Access-Among-Adults-With-Disabilities.pdf)
