Revoking humanitarian parole and telling migrants who legally entered through the CBP One app to leave immediately is a misguided decision that betrays our values as a nation of immigrants. The CBP One program provided an orderly pathway for asylum seekers to apply for protection at official ports of entry rather than attempting dangerous illegal border crossings. Terminating this program abruptly disrupts the lives of thousands who followed the rules and now face losing their legal status and work authorization. Deporting these individuals, many of whom have pending asylum claims or are bravely rebuilding their lives after fleeing violence and oppression, is an injustice. It sows fear in immigrant communities and undermines the integrity of our legal immigration system. We should honor our commitment to humanitarian parole arrivals by allowing them to have their cases fully adjudicated through proper channels. Instead of cruel deportation policies, we need to focus on creating more legal pathways for refugees and economic migrants to enter safely and contribute to our society. America is a nation of immigrants, and our diversity has always been a strength, not a weakness to be feared. I urge you to reverse course on terminating parole for CBP One arrivals and work to build a fair, humane immigration system that reflects our highest values.
