By keeping his financial disclosure confidential, there is a lack of oversight into whether his actions may directly benefit his vast business interests spanning SpaceX, Tesla, X (formerly Twitter), The Boring Company, Neuralink, and xAI. Some of these companies have dealings with foreign entities, raising additional concerns. As Musk himself has stated, there should be no need for FOIA requests and all government data should be publicly available by default for maximum transparency. Allowing his financial disclosure to remain confidential is antithetical to this principle of open government. His significant sway over agencies necessitates the public's ability to scrutinize any potential conflicts to prevent ethics violations and ensure decisions are made in the national interest, not for personal gain.
