Feb 12 Hearing: Hold Gov Accountable for Killing, Traumatizing US Citizens

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Casar, Sen. Cornyn

From: A verified voter in Austin, TX

February 5

I have contacted you before about federal agents killing and abusing U.S. citizens, and I will keep contacting you until something changes. On January 7, 2026, ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot Renée Good three times as video shows her car moving away from him. She was a 37-year-old mother of three who had just dropped her son off at school. Seventeen days later, six CBP agents tackled Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA, to the ground after he stepped between an agent and a woman who’d been shoved down. Video shows an agent removing Pretti’s legally carried firearm from his waistband, and then two agents fired roughly ten shots into him while he lay pinned and face down. Both deaths were ruled homicides. An ICE agent told a legal observer at the Good scene, “That’s why that lesbian bitch is dead.” Federal investigators never established a chain of custody for Pretti’s handgun. It was tossed on a vehicle seat instead of being sealed as evidence. And DHS leadership still called both Americans “domestic terrorists.” These are not the actions of professionals operating under the rule of law. This goes well beyond Minneapolis. ProPublica documented over 170 U.S. citizens detained by immigration agents in nine months. A Senate subcommittee heard directly from Americans who were dragged through broken car windows, denied diabetes medication for four days, and told, “Just get him, he’s Mexican.” A 79-year-old man recovering from heart surgery was thrown to the ground, suffered broken ribs, and a traumatic brain injury. An agent told him, “This is what happens when you fuck with ICE.” Immigration agents have shot at least 13 people since September 2025. Four are confirmed dead. ICE custody deaths hit 32 last year, the highest in two decades. Seventy percent of DOJ Civil Rights Division attorneys have walked out. More than a dozen federal prosecutors resigned after DOJ leadership refused to investigate Good’s killing. Former ICE Director Sarah Saldaña said current enforcement “is not legitimate law enforcement, it is to scare people to death.” We know enforcement can be done differently because we’ve seen it done differently. Under the Obama administration, ICE removed more people than any prior administration while coordinating with local law enforcement and following constitutional boundaries. No American cities turned into occupied zones. No citizens were gunned down in the street. I expect action at the February 12 Senate Homeland Security hearing and every day after it. I am asking you to demand the removal of DHS leaders who lied about these killings publicly and under oath. I am asking you to support the criminal prosecution of the agents who killed Renée Good and Alex Pretti. I am asking you to require independent investigations with full state access to evidence that the FBI has blocked Minnesota from reviewing. And I am asking you to pass legislation mandating body cameras, visible identification, and an independent civilian review board for federal agents conducting domestic operations. Americans will not stand for a government that kills its own people and then lies about it. I will keep writing. I will keep showing up. And I am far from alone.
