Restore the Rule of Law. Trial or Release for Guantanamo Detainees.

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action regarding the indefinite detention of individuals at Guantanamo Bay. As of 2026, some detainees have been held for approximately 25 years without trial or conviction. This is unconscionable and incompatible with American values of justice and due process. The core issue is simple: When someone has been imprisoned for a quarter-century without judicial resolution, the presumption of innocence becomes meaningless, and any reasonable benefit of the doubt evaporates. At that point, continued detention is not security--it is punishment without trial, which violates fundamental constitutional principles that apply regardless of where the facility operates or what "emergency" justifies it. The practical reality: - Decades of detention without trial makes evidence stale and legal proceedings increasingly impossible to conduct fairly - Some detainees were never credibly linked to terrorism in the first place - Indefinite detention radicalizes families and communities, creating more extremism, not less - This damages America's credibility on human rights globally What I expect from you: - Support legislation requiring either trial or release of long-term detainees - Demand a timeline for case resolution or transfers - Oppose any expansion of detention authority The government had 25 years. If there's a genuine case against these individuals, make it in court. If there isn't, release them. Indefinite limbo is not a policy--it's a confession of failure. I expect you to act on this.
