Public education is a vital investment in our communities and the future of our state. The proposed universal school voucher program risks diverting crucial funding away from already underfunded public schools, particularly in rural areas with limited private school options. While families should have educational choices, this legislation fails to ensure accountability and equal access for all students, including those with disabilities. Vouchers alone would not fully cover private school tuition costs, excluding many families. Tennessee should prioritize strengthening its public education system to provide high-quality learning opportunities for every child, regardless of zip code or family income. I urge you to vote against this misguided voucher scheme and instead focus resources on supporting and improving public schools across our state.
