I’m your Dem-voting constituent in NYC. I have long been disappointed in you & Schumer as my senators, but the cave-in votes on the govt shut-down are especially infuriating. I understand that you & Schumer voted no. But that’s not good enough. Either the votes were coordinated, with Schumer involved (as senate Dems have stated), to provide cover for more vulnerable Dem electeds, or Schumer was unable to control a handful of people in your caucus, & either way, it was a failure of Schumer’s leadership, & a troubling deception by many Dem electeds. These YES votes happened just as Dems had momentum from last week’s elections, just as the courts were about to rule on Trump withholding SNAP, & just as Rs & Trump were panicking & about to kill the filibuster in desperation. Senate Dems seem to care more about air travel & the filibuster than health care, the lawlessness of Trump, & hungry people. Maybe your party caved to pressure from rich donors, CEOs & the air industry. Maybe you are all worried about your own personal air travel needs. Bottom line, your party lied to us, people suffered for no reason, Dems showed Trump he can successfully bully, & it now looks like the Dems are to blame for the shutdown. Schumer keeps failing to meet the moment. Durbin too. We need new, better leadership & representation. We need you to demand that Schumer resigns, both as Senate Minority Leader & as senator. We need you to demand the same of Durbin. And we need you & your party to oust the YES voters, & anyone who coordinated to make this cave-in happen. If you don’t, many of us will be working hard to make sure you & all other craven Dems are never elected to any office again.
