Oppose Data Centers
To: Gov. Shapiro
From: A verified voter in Carbondale, PA
June 10
I’m writing to express my deep concern about the growing number of data centers being proposed and built in our state. I ask that Governor Shapiro prioritize the needs of our communities over tech companies by outrightly opposing permits for new data center construction.
No one wants data centers. Environmental promises to minimize consumption and waste will not work. Asking them to pay their own way will not work. And it's incredibly important that you hear your constituents when we're yelling we DO NOT WANT data centers, period.
Big tech and capitalists make their money off of loopholes and workarounds. They make promises they do not keep, and in the end, Pennsylvanians and our environment will be footing the bill. We do not need the job they create if it's going to end up costing us so much more in the end.
The water, air, ground, and noise pollution is not worth it.
It's also important for ethical standards. AI is built off of stolen work, and is the main proponent of so much misinformation and underhanded propaganda we see every day. Pennsylvanians have more integrity than that. We want to be part of the solution, not contribute to the problem. The bubble is going to burst, and then what will happen to the land and facilities they so hastily rushed to make?
There's no good outcome here if these data centers exist. And we do not want them.
Say no, please. Just no.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
