Keep IDEA with Ed - Republican leaders agree

To: Gov. Shapiro, Rep. Briggs, Sen. Cappelletti

From: A constituent in Wayne, PA

July 11

Congress is considering moving IDEA oversight from the U.S. Department of Education to HHS. Please publicly oppose this change and work with Pennsylvania’s congressional delegation to keep special education oversight where it belongs. Former Republican leaders of the Office of Special Education Programs—including a Trump appointee—warn this move would create confusion, fragmented oversight, and weaker accountability for students with disabilities. IDEA is an education law, and families depend on strong educational expertise and clear enforcement of their rights. Please stand up for Pennsylvania students with disabilities and advocate for keeping IDEA oversight within the Department of Education.
