The deployment of U.S. troops and an advanced missile defense system to Israel raises serious concerns about potential escalation and further entanglement in military conflicts in the region. Military force will not solve the tensions between Israel and Iran, and risks provoking retaliation that could harm civilians and drain substantial taxpayer resources. We urgently need meaningful diplomatic efforts to de-escalate rising tensions and avoid a wider war that would inevitably lead to suffering and loss of innocent lives. There are no current legal authorizations for the United States to take offensive military action against Iran. I urge you to halt the deployment of troops and weapons systems to Israel, and instead prioritize diplomacy, de-escalation, and upholding international laws prohibiting wars of aggression. This crisis demands restraint and diplomatic solutions, not provocative military deployments that increase the likelihood of catastrophic regional conflict.
