Put American citizens before the defense contractors!

To: Sen. Schiff, Pres. Trump, Rep. Kiley, Sen. Padilla

From: A constituent in Auburn, CA

March 10

I am writing to urge you to oppose any increase in the already bloated U.S. defense budget. The proposed budget from the GOP would funnel billions more into the Pentagon—an agency that has never passed an audit—while slashing essential public programs that actually benefit American citizens. For years, we have heard calls to reduce “wasteful spending,” yet instead of addressing the blatant mismanagement within the Department of Defense, the only proposed solutions seem to involve stripping funding from education, healthcare, and other critical services. This is unacceptable. At nearly a trillion dollars, the U.S. defense budget surpasses the military spending of multiple nations combined. It is indefensible to continue pouring taxpayer money into defense contractors’ pockets while millions of Americans struggle with housing, healthcare, and economic insecurity. Rather than increasing defense spending, we should be reallocating funds to support working families, improve infrastructure, and invest in programs that strengthen our economy from the bottom up. The middle class is disappearing, wages are stagnant, and yet, instead of addressing these urgent issues, our government continues to prioritize military expansion and corporate welfare. I urge you to stand against this reckless increase in defense spending and instead push for policies that prioritize the well-being of everyday Americans. Please fight for a budget that reflects the real needs of the people you represent, not the interests of defense contractors and billionaires.
