It is critical that we stand united against the alarming normalization of fascist rhetoric and authoritarianism emanating from the highest levels of government. The blatant scapegoating of immigrants and marginalized communities coupled with efforts to stifle dissent are chilling reminders of how demagogues throughout history have consolidated power through division and fear-mongering. We cannot allow such hateful, anti-democratic ideologies to take root here at home or abroad. Our elected representatives have a moral obligation to condemn any affiliation with neo-Nazi and far-right extremist groups like the AfD. Their deafening silence in the face of this administration's disturbing overtures to these elements is an abdication of their sworn duty to uphold our Constitution and its enshrined principles of equality, pluralism, and freedom of expression for all. Public servants must wield their influence to marginalize rather than platform those who espouse ideologies rooted in violence, intolerance, and tyranny over their fellow citizens. Failure to do so is a grave betrayal of our shared democratic values and the immense sacrifices made by previous generations to defeat the scourge of fascism.
