Disappointment in CR Vote
To: Sen. Peters
From: A constituent in Independence, MI
March 15, 2025
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding your recent vote in favor of the cloture bill. As one of your constituents, I feel that you have failed to represent the interests of the people you are supposed to serve.
Your vote on this critical issue showed a lack of spine and a disregard for the voices of those who elected you. Time and time again, we have seen decisions made in Washington that do not align with the needs or desires of everyday Americans, and your vote was no exception. It is disheartening to witness our elected officials prioritize political expediency over the will of the people.
The passage of this bill is not just an issue of policy—it is a dangerous step in handing over the power of the purse to an increasingly authoritarian regime. By not standing against this move, you are enabling the erosion of our democratic principles and further consolidating power in the hands of those who are systematically undermining the Constitution. This is a critical moment, and your failure to meet it with strong opposition signals a troubling willingness to allow this unconstitutional power grab to continue unchecked.
I understand that difficult choices need to be made, but voting in favor of this cloture bill felt like a betrayal to your constituents and to the very principles of our democracy. The fact that you didn’t listen to the concerns of those who trust you to act in their best interests is troubling and leaves me questioning your commitment to the values and priorities that matter to the people of Michigan.
We need a senator who will not simply go along with the status quo but who will fight to protect the checks and balances that make our system of government work. I urge you to reconsider your actions, signal strong opposition, and make it clear that this overreach will not be met without a fight.
I hope you will take our concerns seriously and work to better represent us moving forward.
