Demand Immediate Vote on ACA Tax Credit Extension

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Slotkin, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Stevensville, MI

December 19

I am writing to demand that Speaker Johnson immediately hold a vote on extending the Affordable Care Act tax credits. On December 17, 2025, a discharge petition secured the required 218 signatures to force consideration of legislation that would extend these expiring tax credits for three years. Despite this clear bipartisan support, Congress has been adjourned to avoid holding this critical vote. Millions of American families are now facing significantly higher health care premiums because of this inaction. These enhanced ACA tax credits directly determine whether families can afford their health insurance, and their expiration is causing real financial harm to constituents across the country. The desperation and anger from families losing affordable coverage is growing daily, and lives are genuinely at stake when people cannot access necessary medical care. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries has rightly criticized the refusal to act on this bipartisan solution while simultaneously advancing tax breaks for wealthy individuals. This contrast is stark and unacceptable. During the recent federal shutdown, the tax credit extension became a major point of contention precisely because of its urgency and impact on ordinary Americans. The discharge petition process exists for exactly this situation, when leadership refuses to bring forward legislation that has clear support. The 218 signatures represent the will of Congress to address this crisis. Avoiding a vote through procedural maneuvers disrespects both the legislative process and the millions of constituents who depend on these tax credits for their health security. I urge you to publicly demand that Speaker Johnson schedule an immediate vote on the ACA tax credit extension. Every day of delay means more families losing affordable coverage and facing impossible choices between health care and other necessities. This is not a partisan issue when people's lives and financial stability hang in the balance.
