Trump claims to support law and order, yet he is actively shielding departments from accountability, risking more harm to communities and undermining public trust in law enforcement (ProPublica, April 2025). Experts across the political spectrum, including former DOJ officials, warn that halting these reforms invites further misconduct. Consent decrees aren’t political—they’re legal tools used to correct clear patterns of unconstitutional policing. In cities where they’ve been implemented, they’ve helped reduce excessive force, rebuild trust, and improve public safety. Freezing them sends a chilling message: protecting bad actors takes priority over protecting people. Law enforcement needs support, not sabotage. Blocking reforms doesn’t help police—it harms their relationship with the communities they serve. I urge you to stand against this dangerous rollback and defend the oversight needed to make policing fair, constitutional, and effective.
