Urge Proactive Safeguards Against Executive Overreach and Authoritarian Tactics

To: Sen. Lankford, Sen. Mullin, Rep. Brecheen

From: A constituent in Kingston, OK

January 10

Five years after January 6, 2021, I am writing to urge you to take proactive measures against executive overreach and authoritarian tactics that are unfolding in plain sight. The pattern is clear: manufactured justifications for fraud, crime, and disorder are being used to break norms, seize authority, and condition the public for emergency measures. In a recent Air Force One interview, Trump acknowledged pulling National Guard from cities while reserving the right to bring them back "when the time is right" because "the crimes will start again." This is not a warning but narrative conditioning, normalizing emergency language before declaring an emergency. We have also witnessed Trump speak openly about running Venezuela temporarily and "getting the oil flowing" after a reported U.S. operation captured Nicolás Maduro. This demonstrates a willingness to use raw force and regime change language without restraint. Project 2025 is gradually unfolding. Power is being consolidated, loyalists are being installed in key positions, and institutional guardrails are being systematically weakened. Once audacity is rewarded and restraint becomes optional, escalation becomes inevitable. The possibilities include flooding cities with federal agents under manufactured pretexts, using AI-generated videos to justify invasions, plundering sovereign nations' resources for personal wealth accumulation, and inventing pretexts to remain in office indefinitely. American institutions continue to prepare for good faith disagreement while facing bad faith domination. They wait for proof of harm while operating on proof of intent is what the moment demands. This is not hysteria but foresight based on observable patterns and explicit statements. I urge you to consider what outlandish possibilities for the next three years you are not taking seriously enough. What safeguards can be put in place now to prevent these scenarios? What legislative actions can constrain executive overreach before it escalates further? If we are caught off guard again, it will be due to a failure of audacity and imagination, not unclear signs.
