I’m dismayed by the administration’s recent actions toward Venezuela and Greenland, which raise troubling constitutional and international law issues.
The use of military force in and around Venezuela appears to have occurred without the consultation and authorization required by the Constitution and the War Powers Act. When the executive undertakes hostilities without clear legal justification, Congress has a responsibility to assert its Article I authority.
At the same time, pressure and rhetoric directed at Greenland undermine national sovereignty and risk damaging relationships with key allies. Treating coercion or territorial acquisition as acceptable policy weakens international norms the United States has long claimed to uphold.
I urge you to demand transparency, assert Congress’s constitutional role, and provide meaningful oversight. Respect for the rule of law and sovereign nations must not be optional.
Thank you.
