Support the Socket Full of Sunshine Act

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Pettersen, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Broomfield, CO

October 29

I am writing as a constituent to ask you to support H.R. 10851, the Socket Full of Sunshine Act. If you serve in the House, please cosponsor it and help move it out of committee. If you serve in the Senate, please introduce or support a companion bill. The bill was introduced in the House on October 19, 2026, and is waiting in committee. Plug-in solar (also called balcony solar) is a small solar system that plugs into a standard wall outlet. It lets renters and homeowners lower their electric bills without paying for a rooftop installation. If it becomes law, the bill would: - Ask every state utility commission to consider letting residents use plug-in solar without an interconnection agreement, utility approval, insurance, fees, or extra equipment - Define a plug-in solar device: up to 1,200 watts, plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet, built to the National Electrical Code, and certified by UL or another nationally recognized testing laboratory - Fund point-of-sale rebates of up to $1,000 for low- and moderate-income households buying American-made devices, in states that protect tenants' right to use them - Direct the Consumer Product Safety Commission to set a federal safety standard, and the Federal Trade Commission to create a voluntary label showing expected savings Please support the Socket Full of Sunshine Act so that families in every state have an affordable way to lower their electric bills.
