The Library of Congress is an essential legislative branch institution. Any attempt by the executive branch to improperly access or influence its operations is a grave violation of the separation of powers. We must take decisive action to stop unauthorized access to confidential congressional data held by the Library, as well as any other inappropriate interference from the administration. It is imperative that we safeguard the Library's independence and protect the confidentiality of its communications with Congress. This matter demands an immediate and thorough investigation by the Inspector General's Office to uncover any wrongdoing and prevent further harm to this cherished institution. We call on the IG to prioritize this inquiry and uphold the Library's integrity as a vital resource for the legislative branch. The abrupt firing of the Librarian raises deeply troubling questions about the administration's motivations. No executive branch entity has authority over the Library's data or processes without congressional approval. Any directives or attempted circumvention of proper protocols would constitute an egregious overstep. We must get to the bottom of this situation and take decisive measures to reaffirm the Library's autonomy from executive overreach.
