Urgent: Preserve Lifesaving Hemophilia Programs at the CDC

To: Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Nehls, Sen. Cruz

From: A verified voter in Sugar Land, TX

April 8

I am a member of the bleeding disorders community and, as a constituent, I respectfully ask that you protect the federal hemophilia programs at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The recent restructuring at the Department of Health and Human Services has effectively eliminated nearly all staff within the CDC’s Division of Blood Disorders—where the vital hemophilia programs are housed. These programs are not just important—they are essential. They help collect critical data on bleeding disorders, which has led to the development of safer and more effective treatments. They also support education and outreach efforts that improve understanding of hemophilia among both patients and healthcare providers, and they play a key role in maintaining the safety of our nation’s blood supply. As a family directly affected by Severe Hemophilia A, we know firsthand how crucial this support is. Our son has a history of inhibitors, a complication that can be life-altering for both children and adults with hemophilia. Because of this, we must remain vigilant in ongoing testing to ensure the inhibitors do not return. We rely on our Hemophilia Treatment Center for regular lab monitoring, expert care, and guidance. Without the infrastructure and funding provided through these federal programs, that level of care becomes uncertain. I am relying on you, as a member of Congress, to take action. Please ensure that staff for this program are reinstated and that funding for this critical public health initiative is preserved.
