This administration's proposal to deport and imprison U.S. citizens without due process is an egregious violation of constitutional rights. Deportation or incarceration of any American citizen or person should never occur without the full legal protections and judicial review afforded by our nation's laws. Pursuing this plan would represent an unconscionable overreach of executive power and a dangerous erosion of civil liberties. We call upon principled members of Congress from both parties to decisively reject this unconstitutional scheme and uphold their sworn duty to defend the rights of all Americans against such affronts. The very foundations of our democracy are at stake. Urgent action to rein in this authoritarian impulse and restore adherence to the rule of law is imperative.
