Impeach Trump and Vance Immediately for Threatening NATO Ally

To: Rep. Quigley, Sen. Duckworth, Sen. Durbin

From: A constituent in Chicago, IL

January 14

I am writing to demand that you immediately initiate impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance for their reckless and unconstitutional threats against Denmark and Greenland. This is not political theater. This is a president who has lost any semblance of judgment threatening military action against a NATO ally, and it requires immediate action. Trump has repeatedly threatened to seize Greenland from Denmark "one way or the other" and has openly discussed military force against a democratic ally. When Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen clearly stated that Greenland does not want to be owned, governed by, or part of the United States, Trump responded with what can only be called a threat: "I don't know who he is. Don't know anything about him, but that's going to be a big problem for him." This is the language of a bully and a fool, not a president who understands the first thing about diplomacy or international law. Vice President Vance has been directly complicit, hosting high-stakes diplomatic talks at the White House on this idiotic scheme. His participation makes this coordinated policy that threatens to destroy NATO. European powers have warned explicitly that military action against Denmark would implode the alliance that has kept peace in Europe for 75 years. The American people overwhelmingly reject this dangerous stupidity. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week found that only 17% of Americans approve of Trump's efforts to acquire Greenland, and a mere 4% support using military force while 71% oppose it. France has accused the administration of "blackmailing" Greenland and Denmark, and French President Emmanuel Macron warned that affecting the sovereignty of a European ally would have "unprecedented" knock-on effects. The threats have caused real harm to real people. Greenland's Minister for Business and Mineral Resources Naaja Nathanielsen reports that residents are experiencing sleepless nights, with threats "filling the agenda and the discussions around the households." As she said, "For others this may might be a piece of land, but for us it's home." Threatening military action against a NATO ally is a high crime that demands immediate accountability. I expect you to act now to protect our democratic alliances and constitutional order from a president who clearly lacks the judgment to hold office.
