Stop the Legislative Assault on LGBTQ Lives

To: Rep. Walberg, Sen. Peters, Sen. Slotkin

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

August 3

The coordinated legislative assault on LGBTQ people in this country demands your immediate, vocal opposition. The ACLU is tracking 530 anti-LGBTQ bills across U.S. state legislatures in 2026 alone — targeting healthcare, schools, public spaces, free expression, and the basic right to an accurate ID. This is not a policy debate. This is a systematic campaign to erase LGBTQ people from public life. These bills don't just threaten to become law — they cause harm the moment they're introduced. Trans kids are pulled out of schools. Families are fleeing states. Adults are being denied medical care they need to survive. States like Tennessee, Idaho, and Florida have already signed multiple anti-LGBTQ bills into law this cycle, and dozens more are still advancing. Every bill that passes makes the next one easier. I need you to use every tool available — floor speeches, committee votes, public statements, coalition-building — to fight this. Silence is not neutrality. It is complicity. Stand up and say clearly that LGBTQ people belong here, that their lives have value, and that you will not let this legislature be used as a weapon against them.
