Trumps Steve Pearce as Director of Selling off Our Land, vote no

To: Sen. King, Sen. Collins, Rep. Pingree

From: A verified voter in Cumberland Center, ME

February 26

I am writing as your constituent to strongly urge you to vote against the confirmation of Steve Pearce as Director of the Bureau of Land Management. The BLM is responsible for managing one-tenth of our nation’s land—a heritage that belongs to all Americans. Mr. Pearce’s long record of advocating for the privatization of federal holdings is in direct conflict with the agency's mission. While he recently promised not to seek to sell "large swaths" of land, I am frankly tired of seeing Senators act "surprised" when nominees eventually do exactly what they have been doing for decades.   A few hours of testimony disavowing past stances does not erase a career spent championing the HEARD Act and calling for the reversal of public ownership. We cannot afford to fall for the "confirmation conversion" of a nominee who has spent years viewing our public estate as a liability to be liquidated. Our outdoor heritage—valued by hunters, veterans, and conservationists—depends on a leader committed to stewardship, not one who views the land through the lens of privatization. I ask that you look at Mr. Pearce’s actual record rather than his recent rhetoric and reject this nomination.
