Stop attacks on our First Amendment rights

To: Sen. Warren, Rep. Clark, Sen. Markey

From: A constituent in Watertown, MA

April 8

I'm writing because I am genuinely frightened at the erosion of our constitutional right to protest over the last three months. Please demand the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil, Badar Khan Suri, Rumeysa Ozturk, and other legal immigrants being punished for political views. The lack of due process in their detainment or deportation is chilling, as are the vague claims that they committed unspecified crimes. This is a huge deal- it will create a new norm that anyone, and not just immigrants, can be detained at the administration’s whim. We don’t live in a totalitarian state. This is an attack on the First Amendment that sets a dangerous precedent. The government must immediately release Khalil, Suri, and Ozturk, return them to their families, and stop violating the constitutional right to protest. Thanks.
