This is outrageous. Donald Trump just announced a deal with Vladimir Putin to import Russian diesel, and Treasury immediately lifted sanctions on Russian diesel exports through April. Those sanctions exist for one reason. They limit the money Putin can use to wage his brutal war on Ukraine. So let’s get this straight. Taxpayer money will be sent to Moscow to will help pay for the missiles and drones that kill Ukrainian families. Zelensky warned today that this deal strengthens Putin’s war machine, and he is right. The benefit is also tiny for American consumers. Energy analysts say the promised shipments are a small fraction of global demand, and some doubt Russia can deliver at all after Ukrainian strikes crippled its refineries. There are much better ways to bring energy costs down. I think most Americans want not only lower prices but also a world where dictators pay a price for invading their neighbors.
