Oppose Unauthorized $10 Billion Transfer to Trump's Board of Peace

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Moolenaar, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Rockford, MI

February 20

I am writing to urge you to oppose any attempt by President Trump to transfer $10 billion in taxpayer funds to his newly created Board of Peace without proper congressional authorization. Congress holds the constitutional power of the purse, and this authority must be defended against executive overreach. At the board's inaugural meeting in Washington, Trump announced his intention to secure $10 billion in U.S. taxpayer contributions, dismissing this amount as "a very small number" compared to war costs. This request comes without congressional approval and follows a troubling pattern of the president bypassing legislative authority. Trump has already conducted unilateral military strikes that killed 11 people as recently as Monday, launched a military operation to depose a foreign leader and seize oil, and previously sold permanent board seats for $1 billion each without disclosing where those funds went. The Board of Peace appears designed to facilitate projects like Jared Kushner's Gaza luxury real estate development rather than serve legitimate diplomatic purposes. Transferring billions in taxpayer money to an entity under presidential control, with no transparency about how previous billion-dollar contributions were spent, creates obvious opportunities for misuse of public funds. Given the current government shutdown over DHS funding and the approaching midterm elections, now is the time to reassert congressional authority over federal spending. I ask that you publicly commit to voting against any appropriation for the Board of Peace and support measures requiring full transparency about the destination of the $1 billion payments already collected from permanent board seat sales. The Constitution grants Congress exclusive power over federal expenditures for good reason. I urge you to protect taxpayers and defend this critical check on executive power by blocking this unauthorized transfer.
