Demand Accountability for Unlawful Military Strikes and ICC Obstruction

To: Sen. Murray, Rep. DelBene, Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump

August 1

Demand a full congressional investigation into the administration's military strikes in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific, which have killed more than 220 people with no evidence they were legitimate targets, and into the coordinated effort to dismantle the International Criminal Court before it can hold anyone accountable. This isn't foreign policy — it's a cover-up. The Pentagon's own officials and the DEA confirm the boat strikes have not reduced cocaine entering the U.S. The drug's street price is actually dropping, meaning supply has increased. Meanwhile, Secretary Rubio has pledged to dismantle the ICC "brick by brick," and a Republican operative close to the White House admitted the fear is that future administrations could face prosecution for exactly these kinds of actions. Rodrigo Duterte is sitting in The Hague right now for doing what this administration is doing. The Pentagon inspector general has already found that cuts to civilian-harm protection staff may have violated U.S. law. Congress has the power to subpoena, investigate, and cut funding. Use it. The American people deserve to know whether their military is committing crimes in their name — and whether officials are dismantling international institutions specifically to escape consequences for those crimes.
