Reject discriminatory anti-trans sports legislation, uphold equality

To: Rep. Garbarino, Sen. Schumer, Sen. Gillibrand

From: A constituent in West Babylon, NY

January 28, 2025

The so-called "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act" is a harmful and discriminatory bill that does not align with American values of equality and inclusion. By barring transgender women and girls from participating in sports teams matching their gender identity, it promotes transphobia and undermines the rights of a vulnerable group. This unethical legislation fails to provide any actual protection and instead enables further marginalization. Transgender students already face immense challenges and barriers to participating in activities integral to youth development. Denying them the opportunity to compete according to their authentic selves is cruel and perpetuates the stigma they unjustly endure. There is no credible evidence that allowing transgender athletes to compete based on their gender identity provides any legitimate advantage or threatens fairness and integrity in sports. This discriminatory bill serves no justifiable purpose. It solves no tangible problem and exists merely to exclude transgender youth from yet another sphere of life. Instead of dividing Americans, we should celebrate the diversity that strengthens the fabric of society. I urge you to stand against this un-American proposal and uphold equality by voting no on this misguided legislation. Promoting inclusion and acceptance, not marginalizing already vulnerable groups, is the moral imperative.
