Republicans, for my whole adult life, have branded themselves as the party of “the rule of law” and “law and order”. I put these phrases in quotes because the genuineness of these claims is very much in question since Trump has entered our political arena nearly 10 years ago. Legality of administrative action is often in question, nothing new for a president; what is new is the degree to which Trump and his cronies are willing to test the bounds of their power. What isn’t new, unfortunately, is your ability to rubber stamp anything he does or turn a blind eye to it. Your job in the senate is to thoroughly vet his nominees, which you have done a horrible job of, and to act as part of a coequal branch of power by writing laws. Now, Trump is flagrantly disobeying established law by withholding funds (impoundment) already appropriated by congress, even after courts have ordered him to stop. Impoundment was a technique employed by the ever crooked Richard Nixon, but courts have consistently upheld that it is illegal. There should be no question that what Trump so doing is illegal and he should stop, yet you continue to let him do as he pleases, unabated by you, those employed to represent and protect us. Our laws mean nothing if they aren’t upheld and enforced with everyone tasked to do that job, that includes you. Are you truly the party of law and order or has your lust for power blinded you? I think I know the answer. Trump and Republicans currently control the Senate, House, White House, and Supreme Court. If they were confident that their agenda was both legal and popular, they would go through normal channels of our democracy in enacting it, yet that hasn’t happened. Uphold the rule of law and stop Trump of establishing himself as a dictator.
