Initiate impeachment for defying Supreme Court on Abrego case

To: Sen. Slotkin, Rep. Stevens, Sen. Peters

From: A constituent in Farmington, MI

April 16

The Constitution grants Congress the power to impeach and remove the President from office for "high crimes and misdemeanors." When a President openly defies binding orders from the Supreme Court, it represents a flagrant disregard for the rule of law and the system of checks and balances that is foundational to American democracy. If President Trump refuses to comply with the Supreme Court's unanimous ruling to facilitate the release and return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from the Salvadoran prison, it would constitute an impeachable offense warranting Congress to initiate impeachment proceedings. Defying court orders cannot be accepted from any President. The undermining of the authority of the judicial branch must stop now.
