Defund ICE and shut down every detention facility it operates. Women at Diamondback Correctional Facility in Watonga, Oklahoma are developing vaginal infections because they are being handed used, unwashed underwear from previous detainees. A federal lawsuit now documents this alongside systemic medical neglect — women experiencing heavy bleeding and severe abdominal pain were told to drink water and lie down. There has been another death at Delaney. These are not bureaucratic oversights. People are suffering and dying in government custody.
ICE's own written standards require clean clothing and timely medical care. Those standards are being violated, and the agency has not even responded to the specific allegations at Diamondback. Courts have ruled that deliberate indifference to a person's health in custody is unconstitutional. What is happening across these facilities meets that standard. The people inside have committed no crime — they deserve release, not infection and death in a remote private prison where no one can see them.
Vote to defund ICE, support legislation to close these facilities, and demand the immediate release of civil detainees. Every day without action is a choice to let this continue.
