Block the SAVE America Act and reject the Census Bureau's anonymous, methodologically bankrupt report being used to justify it. This report — which has no listed authors, no named department, and no transparent methodology — is not science. It is a political document dressed up in Census Bureau letterhead. The report claims 24,000 noncitizens voted in 2020 out of 128 million voters analyzed. Even accepting that number at face value, it represents less than two-hundredths of a percent of ballots cast — nowhere near enough to affect any election outcome. And experts say the number itself is unreliable. Beth Jarosz of Georgetown's Massive Data Institute said the Bureau showed no evidence it vetted the private voter data it used. Omar Noureldin of Common Cause pointed out that the 2020 Census didn't even collect citizenship status, meaning the Bureau had no definitive records to match against voter rolls. The findings are, in his words, "modeled population estimates, not evidence that 24,000 people voted illegally." This is part of a pattern. In just the last two months, the administration has scrapped race and ethnicity data updates, gutted statistical privacy protections, and proposed stripping noncitizens from the Census population count entirely. The Census Bureau is being turned into a tool for voter suppression. Vote no on the SAVE America Act and demand this report be retracted or subjected to independent peer review.
