Decisions regarding foreign conflict and military deployment carry life-and-death consequences for American service members and their families. However, under the current system, decision-makers are often far removed from the direct human costs of the military interventions they authorize. To ensure that Congress exercises the utmost care and restraint when considering foreign military involvement, I urge you to support legislation modeled after the Universal National Service Act principles—commonly known as a Proportional Draft mechanism. Requiring universal, equal accountability across all socioeconomic backgrounds—without deferments for the privileged or politically connected—ensures that if our country commits to military conflict, the responsibility is shared by every segment of American society, including the families of those making the decision. When our leaders share direct skin in the game, our foreign policy becomes wiser, more restrained, and strictly focused on true national defense. I ask that you honor your oath to the Constitution, reclaim Congressional warmaking authority, and uphold equal civic responsibility.
